Ring Rivals

Created by OBGames

The OBGames catalogue is growing - In 2020 we launched Next Goal Wins and in 2023 Ring Rivals will join the gang! Ring Rivals is a quick-fire wrestling card game where the goal is to wipe out your rival’s stamina before pinning them. Play strategic move cards like the piledriver, devastating finishers like the liberty lock, or flair cards like tables, ladders and chairs. And bring all your rivals for triple threat, 4-way or tag team clashes.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

A successful campaign! What comes next?
over 1 year ago – Fri, Oct 21, 2022 at 04:59:28 AM

246 backers pledged £4,748 to help bring this project to life. That's 158% funding.

It was a pleasant surprise to wake up this morning to see that we'd climbed nearly £300 more than we were yesterday and even up until the the last minute, there were still more of you coming in to support us. So thanks once again to all of you for helping us make it there.

What's next?

The "getting funded" challenge of the campaign is over, but now a whole new challenge lies ahead for us. As mentioned in the previous update, we need to get the ball rolling on getting the game manufactured, the assets double and triple-checked. The Backerkit surveys will go out soon. We'll also soon be sending out the game assets to those who backed at the Print & Play tier and above.

It's a fair amount of logistical work thereafter, as we communicate with manufacturers and fulfillment partners to make sure everything proceeds smoothly. We'll make sure to stay in touch about any important events along the way. You can also consider following us on Instagram or Twitter if you want to keep up with us on anything outside of the Kickstarter campaign.

We're excited about what the future has in store for Ring Rivals and we'll work hard to see whatever version of the game you ordered in your hands before too long. In the meantime, please do engage with us if you need anything, or if you have any questions.

We'll see you in another update soon!

Exclusive Promo Card + Another Add-on update
over 1 year ago – Fri, Oct 21, 2022 at 02:50:37 AM

Hey everyone, there's under 48 hours left to go for the project now, so here's another multipart update.

Exclusive Promo Card

So, for those of you who backed at the Ring Rivals: Championship Pack tier, we want to share some details about what you'll be getting in terms of the promo card.

The Mysterious Wrestler

The promo card will be a Kickstarter exclusive new wrestler, Big Benjamin, a Powerhouse type wrestler who specialises in Throws and has an ability that allows him to ignore Flair cards (the special cards that opponents can play alongside their basic moves to enhance their effectiveness). Otherwise, he can also be effective with Submission cards, but then is weaker on the Strike and Aerial front.

Big Benjamin, as you might catch from both his name and the name of his special ability "Tower Of London" hails from England and so you can expect his art design to make that as clear as possible.

As for the card itself, we want to really make this card special for those who will be receiving it, so rather than having the standard blue and gold card back - we'll be blowing up his artwork to take up the full reverse side of the card - so you can enjoy Johnny Morrow's art in all its glory.

As for his actual art design, we'll be sharing that soon.

Add-On Preview: Wrestler Posters

As mentioned in the previous update, we'll be offering some add-ons at the end of the campaign through Backerkit. Another such add-on is going to be an A2 poster featuring the full art of one of the wrestlers.

Here's an example of a prototype version we ordered for ourselves, featuring none other than The Harlem Hawk!

There are still some touches we can make to improve the sharpness and colouring of the image, but overall it feels like the art of the game is a natural fit for this kind of thing.
And if you wanted to think about what wrestler you'd get a poster of, here is the full art of each.

Lady Liberty
Errin Knox
Kurtis The King
Tengu
El Gigante
Freddy Flawless
Darediva
The Harlem Hawk

Which wrestler is your favourite? Let us know in the comments!

We're truly in the final stretch now. There'll be at least one last update to close out the running of the campaign, so please stay tuned.

Only half a day left to go! Short Gameplay Preview!
over 1 year ago – Fri, Oct 21, 2022 at 02:48:55 AM

Hey there everyone!

There's just a little over half a day left now, and it's getting late in the evening for us here in the UK. That means we likely won't be able to check back in with the campaign until the morning time with around 4 or 5 hours left on the clock. We're still £700 or so away from our next stretch goal at the time of writing this, so there's quite a ways to go, but we're so proud to have made it to where we are with this campaign up to this point and are extremely thankful to each and every one of you backers who have contributed to get us here.

As some of you may know, Ring Rivals isn't our first project, but it has been no less important in helping us to define what we - OBGames - want to make our name known to be. It's been both a way for us to use what we learned during our first project, Next Goal Wins and to experiment with some things that we've never done before and never thought we'd even have to do. For example, we never thought we'd have to develop the game virtually for the most part, but we eventually acclimatised to it.

Assuming all is well by tomorrow, there will be another update just to cap off the campaign sometime after that and then we'll be hard at work trying to get all the post-campaign work set up. We'll be preparing the print-and-play files, setting up the Backerkit Pledge Manager for everyone and making sure that everything is in order to get the games manufactured.

And now, just to end this update, we have a short gameplay preview of some hands-on play in Ring Rivals. It's not a professionally produced video, but we just wanted to personally give people a little taste of the kind of possibilities there can be in a match.

Thanks once again!

Ring Rivals on Tabletopia!
over 1 year ago – Mon, Oct 17, 2022 at 02:44:59 PM

Hey there everyone!

Thank you to everyone who has backed so far once again.

Weeks 2 and 3 are usually a slower time for most Kickstarter campaigns, but we're steadily approaching our first stretch goal for the campaign to include the tarot-sized wrestlers in all the copies we ship out to you.

These larger sized cards allow you to better take in the detail of wrestler art as you play, but also have more functional uses too. With more design space the text components on the card are increased in size and better formatted, making it a lot easier to have a look at what each player's wrestler has in terms of stats and abilities without having to pass the cards around as much.

Ring Rivals on Tabletopia!

We're excited to announce that we've put up a version of Ring Rivals that you can play online for free on Tabletopia!

So if you've got some friends that you've wanted to try the game out with, or if you just want to take a peek at some more of the cards in the game, please go ahead and check it out.

Try out Ring Rivals on Tabletopia!

We've even got the tarot-sized wrestler cards in the Tabletopia version, so you can get a good look at the design of those ahead of time.

Note: The assets available in Tabletopia are not necessarily reflective of the final version of the game.

Thanks once again to everyone who has backed and for those of you who have been active in the comments!

The Final Week + Add-on updates!
over 1 year ago – Mon, Oct 17, 2022 at 02:44:24 PM

Hey there, everyone!

To all of you who have backed us up to this point, whether you were earlier or later during the campaign, a big thanks to all of you for helping us get to this final week over the funding goal.

We've still got some stretch goals that we hope to hit in this final week that should snag all of you some upgrades to your games, so we're going to be as active as we can in the next week to bring anyone onboard that might be interested as well as keeping you updated on any developments.

Freddy Flawless

For now, what we can say is that behind the scenes, we've been working on the design for the exclusive promo card that we'll be offering to those of you that have backed at the Ring Rivals: Championship Pack tier for the campaign.

Alongside that we've also been preparing some designs for some add-ons that you can expect to be able to purchase in addition to your game copies after the campaign is over through Backerkit. We'll be offering things like some custom mats branded with the Ring Rivals logo for you to play the game on if you don't have a good surface to use at home, as well as some posters featuring our wrestler art in all their glory without any extra text and numbers as you can see above and below in this update.

Darediva

But most importantly, we've been giving a lot of thought to the potential end of the campaign and trying to make sure that things will be in order once we get to the fulfillment stage and can focus on getting your games out to you!

I hope you'll stay tuned for further updates during the next week and if not we'll see you at the finish line!
